Oak, maple veneer, steel

This table was an exploration of wood marquetry techniques, a practice that dates back to the 16th century. I created 52 piece table top design in Illustrator and laser cut them out of maple veneer. Next I spray painted each piece and assembled them onto a sheet of plywood, like a puzzle. I built a simple frame out of oak, and legs out of square steel tubes welded and ground to a smooth finish.
